Started a few years ago as a community experiment, the Lawn on D has quickly become a favorite hangout spot for adults and families alike in the city. Located next to the Boston Convention Center, the Lawn on D offers a place for friends, families, and the residents of South Boston to come together and often has fun and unique events on weekends.
You can’t beat glow-in-the-dark swings that can also function as a type of hammock. Each of these circular swings has its own LED lighting system that makes them glow at night. It’s worth a visit just for the Instagram photo.
Food and Drinks
There are plenty of picnic benches, chairs and tables for kids, making it a perfect place for a picnic. You can also get food at the Lawn on D, which partners with a variety of vendors. On Fridays and weekends, the bar is open and food is available. See details on hours here.
The Lawn on D hosts all kinds of events throughout the summer. Past events include salsa in the park (bring your best moves), the summer block party to celebrate the 4th of July, group fitness classes and more–to stay up-to-date on their future events, keep up with their Facebook page.
In addition to weekly cornhole tournaments on Friday nights, the Lawn on D has games scattered throughout its space. Bring your friends for an evening of bocce, ping pong, jenga, and the newer games like giant chess, lawn checkers and giant connect four.
The Lawn on D puts on several music and film events throughout the summer. Check their website for a full list music and movie nights. This summer’s lineup includes a screening of Jaws, French musician Martin Tamisier, soul folk band SHAH, Briggs Fest and others.
