Burgers are without a doubt one of the most popular comfort foods in the US, but with so many variations and options available, it can be challenging to find the best in any city. That’s where we come in. Here are some of the tastiest, most craveable burgers Boston has to offer:
Alden & Harlow’s burger consists of a patty made with brisket, short rib, and beef plate on a house-baked bun, but toppings change daily. A recent iteration included cheddar, onion strings and mushroom ragout. Despite the name, this is certainly no secret. After selling thousands of burgers over a short time, Chef Michael Scelfo decided to limit how many were sold per day. Alden & Harlow’s advises those interested to try to arrive from 5-6:30pm, but a second batch is whipped up for the late night menu starting at 11pm.

The Bristol Burger features a sesame bun filled with Vermont cheddar, applewood smoked bacon, homemade pickles, Thousand Island dressing, and crispy onions. The patty is big and beefy, char-grilled, seasoned to perfection, making it stand out among others with similar toppings.

Similar to Alden & Harlow’s, Craigie on Main’s burger has gained enough of a following that its chef has decided to limit its consumption to only 18 per night so that customers will experiment more with other items on the menu. In fact, it’s not even on the menu! Craigie on Main advises burger aficionados to get to the restaurant 15 minutes before opening at 5:15 or to make a 5:30 reservation. The patty consists of three types of lean meats, suet, and marrow. The toppings include house made ketchup and cheddar cheese and finished off with a sesame bun.

The only chain on our list, Tasty Burger has quickly expanded throughout Boston in recent years because of its quick service and high quality. The closest location to the Boxer is on Dartmouth Street in Back Bay, but there are others in Fenway, Harvard Square, Southie, Dudley Square, and there’s even a Tasty Burger food truck! The “Big Tasty” has cheese, lettuce, pickles, red onion, tomato and Tasty sauce piled high on a ⅓ LB of all natural beef. For such an affordable item, the beef is juicy, the vegetables are fresh, and the Tasty sauce gives it an added boost of mouthwatering flavor.

For vegetarians or for those simply trying to avoid the grease of a beef patty, Audubon’s Veggie Burger is a perfect option. It’s served with lettuce, tomato, and pickle, and the patty’s highlight ingredients include farro, black bean, oats and a medley of vegetables. It’s seasoned with garlic and ancho, which gives it a bit of a kick. It doesn’t pretend to be beef and instead introduces its own unique taste. Also, it’s hard to get more veggies for your dollar.
