Boston’s seemingly endless tree-lined streets and romantic changing leaves along the Charles River are not the only things to take advantage of this time of year. With fall comes a bevy of new seasonal treats that are too good to pass up. Here are our five picks of what to sample around town.
It’s the best of two desserts in this new ice cream at local favorite JP Licks. This sweet cheesecake-flavored treat swirled with real pumpkin and dotted with crunchy graham crackers is addicting. With locations around Boston including Beacon Hill, Coolidge Corner and Harvard Square, you can stop into any JP Licks for a quick taste.
Cream-filled desserts are already a local favorite, so you know that this donut with pumpkin filling from Blackbird is quite the hot ticket. Located in the South End on Tremont Street, this artisanal donut shop uses local ingredients, and its donuts are known around town for their unique flavor combinations. Get there early, grab some freshly baked donuts and a cup of coffee, and take a leisurely stroll around the picturesque brick-lined neighborhood.
For a delectable dessert, try Mistral’s seasonal warm Apple Crostada. A pocket of dough filled with sweet baked apples complete with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream makes this indulgence reminiscent of homemade apple pie. Mistral is a French restaurant located on Columbus Avenue, right in Back Bay near Copley Square. Pair it with their new seasonal ‘Ironsides’ drink, made with spiced rum complemented with sweet honeyed pear puree and pear liqueur.
While in Boston, it’d be a shame not to take a trip to the famed Harpoon Brewery. For those who prefer sweet apple over beer, try Harpoon’s seasonal Pumpkin Cider. Crisp cider with the flavors of pumpkin—it’s basically autumn in drink form. The brewery is located right in the Seaport District along the waterfront, and offers daily tours with tastings!
Along with a few other seasonal treats, Georgetown Cupcake on Newbury Street offers a Caramel Apple cupcake that you can’t miss. With a gooey caramel core surrounded by sweet apple cake and finished off with a vanilla cream cheese frosting, it’s hard to resist this fall creation. Stop in for this sugary pick-me-up while you’re exploring the Public Garden or wandering Newbury.
