watching game at bar

Boston may be better known for its beloved pastime—Red Sox Games at Fenway Park—than any other attraction or event. The historic ballpark is a treasured landmark in New England, and it’s the well epicenter of the city’s bustling bar and restaurant scene. Fans and tourists are always lined up for street vendor sausages outside the park, or working their way through the expansive offerings along Yawkey Way. But for those eager to avoid the oversized crowds and overpriced fare, the best bet is to explore local gems around Boston’s Kenmore Square. Here are our three favorite pre-game destinations near Fenway Park.

Tasty Burger

With the appeal of an old school burger joint, Tasty Burger is one of the Fenway neighborhood’s greatest spots. Patrons can dine outside on sunny days, or stay inside to nurse pitchers of beer. In addition to excellent, ballpark-style appetizers, most notably their baskets of mixed onion rings and french fries, it’s the burgers you’re really there for. Pool tables are a plus for those eager to start game day early.

Cask’n Flagon

Cask’n Flagon is arguably the most popular Fenway Park pre-game destination. Located right across the street from Fenway Park, an outdoor seat at Cask’n Flagon is an excellent place to watch rowdy fans make the iconic cimb to Fenway Park. The shouting of workers selling programs and T-shirts, the smell of sausages simmering with peppers and onions, and an ice cold beer truly create the quintessential Red Sox pre-game experience. Head to Cask’n Flagon for an array of craft cocktails and classic American fare.

Baseball Tavern

The Baseball Tavern is one of the less-crowded and better-kept secrets amongst the premier Fenway Park pre-game spots. While the Baseball Tavern has everything you need for a day at the ballpark (burgers, dogs and beer), the major attraction of this bar and restaurant in Fenway is their rooftop. Here, you can enjoy the view of the ballpark and historic, surrounding neighborhood while sharing wings and bacon cheese fries with your friends.
