As one of the founding cities of this great nation, Boston always celebrates the Fourth of July with style and flare. The main tradition here is to head to the nearby Charles River Waterfront for an evening of live music and pyrotechnics. Every year, the Boston Pops Orchestra hosts a free concert—televised nationally—at the Hatch Shell venue on the Esplanade along the river. Crowds get big, and seating is done on a first-come, first-serve basis, so it’s worth heading out early to get a prime spot. Accompanying the show is a vibrant and exciting fireworks display shot out above the water and skyline of Cambridge.
