Boston’s homegrown annual anime convention is coming up. Focused on the promotion and enjoyment of Japanese animation and popular comics, Anime Boston reaches to the roots of the worldwide phenomenon that is anime. Going strong since 2003, this year’s event will be the 12th, marking the latest installment in a long and incredible journey.
According to the Anime Boston website, the first several conventions took place at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, but they quickly relocated to the iconic Hynes Convention Center due to increased popularity. The Hynes is one of the most well-known and sought-after event spaces in the city, hosting events such as Boston Comic Con and the Pokemon World Championships. The expansive and dynamic space at Hynes works perfectly for the multi-faceted Anime Boston event.
The venue will be broken up throughout the weekend into different themed areas where dealers and exhibitors can interact with patrons. The manga library will celebrate the popular Japanese comic style. Anime Boston will also host exhibits for video gaming, live gaming, and Karaoke. In addition to all of these interactive convention attractions, the weekend will also bring an incredible amount of paraphernalia and art to Boston for patrons to observe and purchase.
With so much going on, Anime Boston provides a truly passionate and focused event for the city to enjoy. It’s the closest event of its kind for Boston next to Comic Con, which could be a bit too widespread for the focused, anime-passionate individuals who put on Anime Boston. Run by the New England Anime Society, Anime Boston stays true to the comics and animation brands that originally inspired the event, providing individuals with a particular attraction to Japanese anime an outlet for experiential celebration.
With only three days to enjoy and take part in all of the excitement, be sure to check out the Anime Boston Convention at Hynes Convention Center early this April.
